A BIDFORD man was killed after he was involved in a collision with a 7.5-tonne lorry as he walked along the road with his girlfriend on Monday evening.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident in which Paul John Reeves, aged 22, died.

Police say he was walking on the nearside lane of the A46 with his 17-year-old girlfriend, from Evesham but whom they have not named, when the collision, involving a red Leyland DAF lorry, occurred about 300 yards from the Salford Priors roundabout on the A46 at about 11.40pm.

Mr Reeves was pronounced dead at the scene.

His girlfriend was taken to the Alexandra Hospital, in Redditch, with head injuries but was discharged on Tuesday morning.

Neighbours of the dead man said they believed he had been lodging in Orchard Close, Bidford.

Police have not named the driver of the lorry but say he is 55 years old and from Hanham, near Bristol. He was uninjured. The road was closed for two hours.

PC Andrew Rawson of Warwickshire Police said: "If anybody saw the pedestrians on that particular road between Alcester and Salford Priors, then we would like them to get in touch."

He can be contacted on 01926 415000.
