EVESHAM Wheelers were represented in the West Wales Cycle League 25-mile Time Trial on the R25/3 Glyneath course.

A slight headwind on the long outward leg precluded fast times but the times of 56.49 by Brian Newton, 58.26 from Ken Hayes and 59.24 of Rudi Ligthert, who went under the hour for the first time this season, were well up the results placing.

With better riding conditions anticipated the riders are now looking to faster times to build confidence for the Inter-Club Race next Wednesday. Entries racing secretary Roy Goodbeir are required.

Last Wednesday evening's Time Trial consisted of an 18- mile circuit starting in Evesham following the Cheltenham Road to Teddington then Toddington with the finish at Broadway.

The usual course finishing back at Evesham was not used due to road repairs on the Broadway Road.

In very blustery conditions the winner was Newton in 44.36 followed by Ian Likeman (46.19), Martin Hall (46.49), Ligthert (47.57), David Burfoot (48.54), Steve Sandalls (50.09), Paul Stockdale (51.14) and Arja Scarsbrook (51.17).

Twelve-year-old Ben Stockdale and younger brother Tom (8) competed in last Saturday's Bristol RC Hengrove Park Criterium races.

Ben was thrilled to win the under-12 race and Tom equally pleased to take second place in the under-8s.

Sunday's weekly club run was supported by 21 members. The race training run was to Stow-on-the-Wold and the second run was due to meet up but was unfortunately delayed due to mechanical problems and took a detour to Moreton-in-Marsh.

This Sunday the club run is to Northleach, meet in the High Street at 9am.
