THE comprehensive victory by Richard Taylor in the Wyre Forest constituency was truly remarkable and probably unprecedented in modern times.

But while his success has brought tremendous publicity to the cause, it seems highly unlikely that the decisions about the Kidderminster hospital will be overturned but one can only applaud him for trying.

In a recent edition of The Times, Dr Taylor was quoted as saying that he had been elected on a range of other issues, as well as the hospital. This may come as a surprise to many of his constituents and it would be interesting to know how much canvassing he did on issues such as the euro, fox hunting and private education/healthcare.

Honesty

His views on these matters, as expressed in The Times are right of centre, but I think Dr Taylor would agree that were it not for the hospital issue on which he stood, Labour would almost certainly have won the seat.

Dr Taylor's campaign has been strongly based on the idea of honesty and the fact that local people have not been listened to.

His constituents will in turn expect him to listen and act honestly on a range of other issues where, unlike the hospital closures, his and their views do not necessarily coincide.

Dr Taylor stood as an independent, but in politics, of course, there is no such thing.
