A group of Broadway mothers have called on parish councillors to drop into their baby and toddler group, to see for themselves what a fine service they provide for the community.

Members of Peek-a-Boo, the village's parent, baby and toddler group, are annoyed that councillors refused to endorse their application to Wychavon District Council for a grant for more equipment.

Parish councillors at their last meeting said that too much room was already taken up under the Lifford Hall stage by the playgroup's toys and equipment.

Peek-a-Boo committee member, Lisa Byrd said: "We are a non-profit making voluntary organisation which provides a much-needed group for children, babies and their parents who live in Broadway and the surrounding area.

"We rely on fund-raising and grants to buy and update toys and equipment, and replace those worn or damaged. The money which we applied to the district council for, is to enable us to provide a quiet area within the group where the children can sit on bean bags on the floor or mats to read or construct jigsaw puzzles.

"Chairman of the parish council, Coun Riley's comment that we already take up half of the storage space under the stage area is untrue. We only take up one sixth of the space.

"The storage area is not a problem anyway as some of the parents who attend the group have offered storage space in the own homes."
