A WORCESTER barman whose car was pelted with bricks is still demanding to know why police failed to come to his aid - despite two men being arrested in connection with the attack.

The victim claims police could have caught the man responsible red-handed as he kept in constant contact with an officer throughout his ordeal in the early hours last Saturday.

"I'm happy that they've made progress on their investigation, but there's more to this than meets the eye and I won't rest until I get an explanation," said the barman, who has asked not to be named.

His car was attacked as he drove through the Cornmarket at around 2.30am.

He said an "incoherent" man pressed him for a lift and attacked his car when the barman refused. The man got into a taxi and the barman followed him to Wyld's Lane. The attacker went into a garden, armed himself with bricks and renewed his attack on the car.

He got back into a taxi and despite following him, the barman lost track of him and ended up at Worcester Police Station.

"I feel the police failed me because I kept in touch with them constantly on my hands-free phone and they could've caught the guy," said the 32-year-old.

A Worcester police spokeswoman said a man had been arrested in connection with criminal damage and another in connection with aiding and abetting the offence.

Both are from Worcester and have been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Witnesses are still being asked to come forward and the barman's claims are still being investigated.

"I still intend to take this to the top," added the barman, who has been told he faces a bill of more than £2,000 to repair his car.

"As far as I'm concerned, the police are public servants and have a duty to the public - you don't hear of fire or ambulance services being unable to attend calls for help.

"I'm still keen to meet with the Chief Constable and make him aware of my complaint. What if this had happened to a woman on her own, for instance?"
