A MAN beat up his partner after he found himself locked out of their home, magistrates were told.

Paul Dawson had been watching the FA Cup final at a Worcester pub before he returned home and had to stand for more than half-an-hour outside.

Paul Whitehead, prosecuting at Droitwich Magistrates Court, said the 35-year-old was in an angry mood when his partner of two years, Lorna Johns, came back home at about 10pm.

"He slapped her several times, pushed her against a wall and pulled a chunk of her hair out," said Mr Whitehead. "He also kicked her in the back."

The court heard Miss Johns fled and hid in a neighbour's garden, before running to a telephone box and calling the police on Saturday, May 12.

Mr Whitehead said when the officers arrived, Dawson was co-operative and admitted the attack.

Miss Johns was left with back pain and soreness to her head, as well as bruising and grazes to her chest. Dawson was described as of previous good character.

Mark Lister, defending, said his client had been drinking "more than normal" before the incident.

The court heard he had consumed seven pints, before heading home.

"Mr Dawson received injuries too," said Mr Lister, who added the couple were now trying for reconciliation.

"When the police took him to the station, he was covered in his own blood."

Dawson, of Medway Road, Ronkswood, was given a six-month conditional discharge and told to pay £35 costs after admitting assault. No compensation was awarded.
