THE Chancellor clearly stated on television that as from November, 2000, all cars under 1400cc would qualify for the lower car tax rate of £100.
On checking later I was told by the RAC that in April, the DVLC would be letting us have the necessary refunds.
I wrote to the DVLC in May, as my car was almost due for renewal and I still had not received any notification, or refund, regarding the reduction due, although I knew the scheme was working as the owner of a 1200cc car had received their refund.
I am now informed by DVLC that this does not actually become law until July, when we will be notified!
These promises sound so good on television - is this to be another promise easily made and so quickly forgotten?
We were not told then that it would be nearly a year before any benefit was forthcoming. What if Labour had not won?
