HANDICAPS came tumbling down for the Ladies of the Worcestershire Golf Club at their Closed Meeting.

Suzy Bird won the Members Cup with the outstanding score of net 59, this was equalled by Helen Simpson who lost on count back. Both had long awaited reductions to their handicaps.

Sandra Schofield coped well on the very slick greens to win the Hollins Putting Cup.

Best gross was C Francis, Division One winner E Evans, runner up J Jones, 3 N Pottinger. Division Two winner C Guest, runner up J Mico, 3 P Fletcher. Division Three winner H Simpson, runner up J Paget, 3 M Duncan. The afternoon foursome winners were J Mico & N Pottinger, runners up U Pearson & E Lewis.

The Ladies team are on a winning streak with an excellent win for the Mail on Sunday team of Anita Lever, Diane Meakin, Sally Dare and Mary Horrobin against a strong team from Stourbridge Golf Club. This puts them through to the fifth round where they will play away at Minchinhampton. This was followed by the scratch team winning 5-0 against Burghill Valley Golf club at home. During the same week the friendly match against Hereford Golf Club was won by the Worcestershire Ladies. More recently there was a good win away against Worcester Golf & Country Club to retain the Kath Noble Trophy. This trophy was presented by Kath Noble's husband in her memory as she was a member of both golf clubs and is now played for annually with teams of 12, playing medal rounds.

The scores reflected the excellent conditions of the day, three WGC players returning scores below their handicaps.

There were celebrations with a second ace by a lady in only a few months. This was recorded by Helen Landau holing in one on the third.

The Open Mixed Foursomes with a field of 220 had to be abandoned in the afternoon due to thunder and lightning and has been re-arranged for July 15.

Ledbury Plate qualifiers are Val Burton, Julia Radley, Pat Fletcher, Cathy Harris, Betty Hakes, Sabrina Willett, Norma Pottinger and Janet Clowrey. These players go on to play a knock-out competition for the winner.

The NSPCC qualifiers who go through to play in the regional final are Liz Evans and Pat Longley on count back from Cath Francis and Janet Clowrey.

The Carrington Cup was won by Ursula Pearson who returned a net 68 playing off a handicap of 11 on count back from Linda Mackie.

The Droitwich League team have had mixed fortunes losing away to Gay Hill Golf Club and winning at home against Littlelakes Golf Club.

The Ladies drew their postponed Spring match against the Senior Gentlemen, so they both have all to play for in the Autumn.
