ABOUT 55,000 people turned up to vote in the general election for the Stratford-on-Avon district with conservative candidate John Maples coming out the victor once again.
Mr Maples received 27,606 votes, more 50 per cent of the total, which was 2,300 votes down on his 1997 total.
Liberal Democrat candidate and Alcester Councillor Susan Juned came in second with 15,804, just 57 votes down on her 1997 result.
Mushtaq Hussain, Labour, received 9,164 votes, Ronald Mole, UK Independence, got 1,184 votes and Green Party candidate Mick Davies got 1,156 votes.
The turnout for the constituency was 66.5 per cent, which followed the national trtend and almost 10 per cent down on last year.
