THE Youth Development Section of Malvern Rugby Club ran its annual World Cup day for the New Image 9th end of season tournament.

Lifted by the near perfect playing conditions and the use of the new MRFC clubhouse, a large crowd watched an excellent display of touch rugby.

The players from both the mini and junior section, were this year joined by a good number of the local schools players from the tag-rugby leagues. A total of over 60 players were divided into National teams from around the World and kitted out in shirts donated by a group of sponsors, organized once again by John Allison.

The final was a closely contested volley of tries where last years winning coach John Allison led New Zealand to a close victory over the USA. The Malvern Gazette Cup for top try scorer went to Christopher Spicer.

The event was once again followed by the annual awards presentation.

The whole of the junior section has had a very busy season with an exceptional number of away games to contend with. Mini awards this year went to the U8's James Bruton, Nat Wallis and Josh Blackmore, U9's Jamie Page, Gareth Jones and Danial Barbosa.

The Malvern Hyundais U10's squad, sponsored by Bowling Green Garage, completed their busiest and toughest season playing for the first time near full rugby rules. Most improved Hyundai player was Michael Webber (prop), Best Forward Christopher Spicer (scrum half), Best Back Andrew Tighe (centre) Player of the year Louis Jones (prop), Clubman award Tom Hale (outside half) with the Mayor's award going to John Webber - a certain future star.

The Malvern Council TOPS scheme was once again successfully run by MRFC with Oliver Jenkins nominated as award winner.

The coaching staff can now take a short but well deserved break. Thanks to all who played, managed coached and watched - see you all next season.
