BACK on the road but not just down memory lane, John Martyn and Danny Thompson are teaming up once again for a 24-date tour.

The pair will be stopping off at the Huntingdon Hall in Worcester on Thursday (June 14) and Mr Thompson said he hopes that it will be the beginning of a new phase in their creative partnership.

"People have been asking about this for the last ten years but we have both been involved in other things," said Mr Thompson. "We have kept in touch because we are close friends but we have our own careers."

The reunion follows an invitation to perform together for a TV show, which Mr Thompson said "rekindled what we had had in the first place".

The pair recorded seven albums over three years before moving on, having met by chance.

"I was working with a folk band years ago, Pentangle," said Mr Thompson.

"As far as I was concerned it was coming to the end. Then I met John Martyn at the Newport Folk Festival and he had all this energy."

It is the first time Mr Thompson, whose recent collaborations have included Everything But the Girl, has been to the Huntingdon Hall since the early 90s with his band Whatever, although he did write a piece called Huntingdon Hall as part of his work A38, so it clearly made an impression.

The Worcester gig starts at 8pm. Tickets are £16.50.
