BARNARDS Green Sunday 2nd XI entertained Ombersley 2nd XI in the first Sunday league game of the season.

BARNARDS GREEN SUNDAY 2NDS v OMBERSLEY 2NDS

The Green skipper lost the toss and was put into bat and got off to a bad start losing D Goodman second ball of the game and D Bayliss shortly after. This brought K Golder and C Hill to the crease and they despatched every loose ball to the boundary taking the score to 62 before Oakley stumped Golder (44).

A Wheeler approached the loose bowling with aggression hitting five huge sixes and went on destroying the bowling before he was eventually out for 78 bowled by Stirzaker (he only ran ten runs!).

The run rate then slowed for the Green as Hill was also bowled by T Drew for 41. In the last few overs M Wajzer and H Gregory and J Wheeler started to pile on the runs again hitting 30 for four overs getting the Green to their final total of 267-8 off their allotted 45 overs.

After tea the Green skipper opened with the accurate J Longmore and M Brookes who bowled a very tight opening ten overs with only 29 coming off them and both bowlers taking a wicket.

Golder was brought on after Brookes to maintain this bowling but I Stirzaker had other ideas despatching Golder all over the ground. The introduction of H Gregory after an excellent spell of bowling by J Longmore struck immediately with two wickets in his third over and a wicket in each of the three overs after leaving him with excellent bowling figures of 8-0-25-5.

Stirzaker (110no) was still attacking the bowling but batsmen were running out and with C Hill introduced in the 33rd over the final batsman was bowled middle stump giving the Green a 108 run victory.
