A MATURE and disciplined innings of 61 from young Will Murtagh guided Malvern College to a three wicket win against the Free Foresters, a victory that had at one stage seemed improbable.
The home side had been toppling at 99-6 in pursuit of a Free Foresters' total of 180 but a seventh wicket partnership of 69 between Murtagh and Bailey saw them home.
Earlier in the day, accurate bowling and tight out cricket by Malvern had restricted their vastly more experienced opponents to 180-9 with Edkins leading the way with 4-33 ably supported by the rest of the attack, particularly Charles Tolchard who took 2-11 off six overs.
The Free Foresters' attack soon got among the Malvern batsmen however before Murtagh in partnership with Bailey steadied the ship and steered their team to a satisfying win.
