HANLEY Castle & Upton 2nds travelled to Chaddesley on Saturday for their Worcestershire County League (3rd XI Single) game.

CHADDESLEY CORBETT 3RD XI v HANLEY CASTLE & UPTON 2ND XI

After again losing the toss Hanley & Upton were asked to bat first on a hard flat wicket. The opening pair of Heming and Hill started slowly, coming to terms with batting on a track where the ball came through for the first time this year.

Heming in particular started to punish the bad ball and with Hill (14) providing solid support the runs began to flow. Hill finally perished with the score on 49. Heming continued to hammer the bowling and with Powell providing the backup the score started to mount with the 100 coming in the 26th over. Heming finally reached his maiden century with a pull for four.

Finally Powell departed bowled for 31 after adding 144 in 27 overs with Heming who continued to play his shots with power. Conway (11) helped Heming continue the good work and finally the innings came to an end with Hanley & Upton reaching 229 for three wickets. Jon Heming, looking rather tired, finished on 146 not out which contained 22 fours and 2 sixes.

Medium pacer Conway (2-14) took a wicket from only the third ball of Chaddesley's reply although Jim Wilkes (1-30) struggled bowling into the wind. Williams (4-9) then put a stranglehold on the reply with only 14 runs coming from the next 18 overs. Heming produced another excellent stumping and after some stout resistance from the tail enders Hill (2-2) wrapped up the innings for only 65 leaving Hanley winners by 164 runs and picking up another 24 points.

Players to meet Hanley 1.30pm on Saturday, June 9 for a home match with Old Halesonians.
