COUNTY Sports have had to put their promotion celebrations on ice as they bid to find a ground for next season.

The club is frantically searching for a floodlit ground to cement their promotion place to the Midland Combination Premiership Division.

The Worcester side needs floodlights and seating to comply with the league's regulations but these are out of the question at their picturesque pitch in Claines because it lies in Green Belt land.

Joint manager, Geoff Woodward, revealed Sports have applied to use Nunnery Wood Sports Centre's pitch, and also Pershore Town's, in a bid to ensure they can play premiership football next year.

"The club is ambitious and wants to go as far as it can but we have reached the stumbling block with the ground at Claines Lane," he said.

"It's a lovely site but unfortunately it is in Green Belt land so we have to find another ground. We have approached Nunnery Wood but I'm not sure how keen they are.

"Pershore have an annual meeting on Sunday and will let us know after that."

Sports, who were formed in 1968, spent only three seasons in the Midland Football Combination Division One.

They came fifth last year before finishing runners up to Shirley Town this year.

"From our point of view Nunnery Wood is the best site for us because if we had to move slightly out of the area it would be a shame but we do need to get into the premiership," added Wood-ward.

"Obviously we want to get as high as we can because promotion is the name of the game.

"After Worcester City we are the next biggest club."
