THE funeral has taken place of Malvern man Dave Boycott, who died last week after being hit by a train.

Mr Boycott, from Matthias Close, was killed after trying to rescue his wife's dog from the path of a train at a pedestrian crossing in Malvern Link.

His funeral was held on Tuesday at Worcester Crematorium and his wife, Pat, said she was touched to see so many of his friends there.

"It was so lovely, if a funeral can be lovely," she said.

"It was absolutely packed, people were queuing to come in and they were all standing around the edge. Dave's daughter, Sue, did the tribute and talked about her father's life. She was very brave about it.

"And Sally, my daughter-in-law, read a poem. It was a lovely funeral and it went so well. He was very well loved and respected," she said.

Mrs Boycott said she wanted to thank a lot of people for their help and support.

"I want to say a special thank-you to the Town Club for the beautiful buffet they put on for people afterwards and to all the family and friends, particularly Sally," she said.

"I've been sent well over 100 condolence cards and every little word written in those cards has helped."

Mrs Boycott said that at some stage she would like to get together with other concerned people to talk about the pedestrian crossings over the railway.

"I'd like to see if there's something we could perhaps do to get a safety crossing there for children and everyone else to use," she said. "That's very important because it's so dangerous."
