MANAGER Sheila Murray, chairman Sheina Stockton and a band of helpers will be doing some final packing at Upton's Hill Centre this weekend before it is finally demolished.
Work on the centre, which includes knocking down everything except the gym and building new social and sports facilities around it, is expected to start on June 25.
The contractors will be Interclass plc of Tewkesbury.
"We're so pleased to have a starting date at last. Everyone is so relieved it's going ahead," said Mrs Murray.
The Fitness League and the roller-hockey group were the last to use the gym yesterday (Thursday), after the judo club and the Hillbillies Playgroup had moved out. The Hillbillies are taking an extended holiday while formalities are completed for their proposed move to The Glebe, at Welland.
"It's taking a little longer than we envisaged," said the group's chairman Chris Chambers.
Football and archery groups should be able to use the field at the Hill Centre while work is going on, although there will be no changing rooms on site.
