IF sitting in a beautiful park listening to brass band music on a warm summer's afternoon is your idea of fun, you're in the right town.

Worcester City Council is repeating its summer season of free brass band concerts in the city's parks, following the huge success of the Bands in the Park programme last year.

Bands including the West Mercia Police Band, Tewkesbury Town Band and Malvern Hills District Brass Band will play in Gheluvelt Park, Barbourne, and Cripplegate Park, St John's.

"With a blend of modern and traditional music, Bands in the Park is set for another successful summer," said the council's parks and cemeteries manager, Ian Yates.

"Last year, 1,500 people were entertained by a programme of top bands. It's an ideal way to spend a summer's afternoon!"

Mr Yates said the backdrops of the "magnificent" fountain at Cripplegate Park and the period bandstand at Gheluvelt Park would be complemented by the summer bedding plants currently in bloom.

The concerts, which start this Sunday, June 10, will run from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
