GAVIN Webster will use the disappointment of his play-off at Rotherham as a spur to success with Worcester.

The lock played for Rotherham two seasons ago when they lost on tries scored to Bedford after missing out on the Premiership Two title to Bristol.

Such was his disappointment at missing out on the big-time that, when an offer came to play in Ireland, he decided to leave the English game for a season and head for the hills of Connacht.

But the 27-year-old is back now and has some unfinished business to attend to -- promotion into Premiership One.

"The experience at Rotherham makes me very determined to get promotion with Worcester," Webster said.

"It was really hard to miss out in the way we did at Rotherham. We were level on points with Bedford but they had scored one more try than us and went up.

"That was a bitter pill to swallow but it's given me a real driving and motivational force."

His link with Ireland started when he played for the Irish Students at the last World Cup. He also turned out for the Irish Exiles when England played in Dublin in the Five Nations two years ago.

Glen Ross, his former coach at Northampton, then set a provincial contract.

"It was a big draw having just missed out with Rotherham and it was a steep learning curve so now I'm looking forward to playing winning rugby," he added.

And he was delighted his former team-mates made it past Bedford in the play-offs at the second time of asking.

"I was at both play-offs and went to cheer them on with Mat Walker and I was very pleased for them," he added.

Webster already knows about Worcester having played home and away against them when at Rotherham and also returned to Sixways for a pre-season friendly last summer with Connacht.

"I played against Worcester last year when I came here with Connacht and I was very impressed with the set-up here and with the players," he said.

"There's a lot of new faces in this year and a new coach so now we're looking to get some stability because that will provide the platform for a winning team."
