WORCESTER Rugby Club favourite Nick Baxter is facing a race against time to save his Sixways career after his "worst season ever" at the club.

The 27-year-old, who two years ago set a National League record for 29 tries in a season, has seen his first-team chances dwindle this year, scoring one try after just three starts.

And with his contract up at the end of his seventh season at the club, Baxter knows he needs to impress sooner rather than later to carry on his Worcester love affair.

He said: "It is unthinkable really that I could be looking for another club at the end of the season because I love the place, the supporters and everything about it. However, I obviously need to get into the team to earn a new contract and at the moment, It's difficult to get a chance.

"I desperately want to play for Worcester for the rest of my career, I've played for the club at all levels and it would be fantastic to play in the Premiership here."

The winger is hoping to play some part in Worcester's league clash at Henley next Saturday but has dropped below Sateki Tuipulotu, Spencer Bromley and Ally McLean in the pecking order.

"This season has been frustrating to say the least especially after coming back from injury.

"There is obviously a lot more competition for places and I would say there are probably three wingers competing for one spot in the team.

"Sateki is in on one wing and is also the goal-kicker so that leaves me, Spencer and Ally to fight it out for one spot."

But he freely admits this year has been his worst ever at the club for a number of reasons. "I've struggled a bit with injuries lately and have been building up my fitness since a knee operation in summer.

"If I get my chance though I have no doubt I will take it with both hands because I have a lot more to offer."
