THREE Vale men held a special ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of five airmen who died in the Whitley Bomber crash at Broadway Tower on June 2. 1943. Michael Barnard, Brian Kedward and John Dallimore held a minute's silence at 2.15pm last Saturday, near where the crash occurred. Local historian, Mr Barnard said: "We arrange a get-together of descendants and local people every year to pay tribute to the two Canadian and three RAF men who died. This year because of foot and mouth, we could not organise the normal event, but we remembered the men with a minute's silence."
