JEAN Eyers won the first Ravensmeadow Golf Club Ladies Championship, just a day after obtaining her handicap certificate.
She scored a nett 60 to pip runner-up Pam Bird on countback and pick up a glass bowl trophy.
"I joined four years ago and had some lessons but it wasn't until recently that I played more regularly," said Jean.
"It hadn't even entered my head that I could win so that is probably why I was relaxed."
As well as submitting three cards to gain her handicap she had to answer 45 questions on golf rules and etiquette and get more than 75 per cent right.
Club owner, David Rodway, insists on members knowing the rules of the game.
"I am concerned that so many people take up golf and have no idea on the rules and etiquette of the game," he said.
