A GRANDFATHER has stepped in to try and revive a team that is in danger of folding this summer.

Franche Boys U-11s, who will move up to U-12s level next season, have lost many players to Kidderminster Lions after their management team switched clubs.

But Anthony Simester has offered to take over coaching at the Stourport and District League side as his grandson Andrew is keen to continue with the club.

He is looking for new signings or former players to return over the next three Sunday training sessions at White Wickets Sports Ground.

Simester, who was once on the books at Kidderminster Harriers, is prepared to return to coaching with the help of son Brendan.

Injuries in a work incident four years ago forced him to give up.

He said: "I will run the side if we can get enough players. The U-11s played small-sided games but they will be on a full-sized pitch next season.

"If any of last year's team are interested, we would be glad to have them. They might have gone away thinking Franche were not going to run a team.

"I've coached and managed teams before and can still help youngsters do what they want to do and that's play football."

Training will run between 10.30am and 12.30pm this Sunday.

Anyone interested can turn up or call Brendan Simester on 01562 822431.
