ATHLETICS: Ten Stourport High School athletes have qualified for the English Schools Athletic Association Midland finals this month.

They finished in the top four at the County Combined Events Athletic Championships.

The junior girls team of Sam Rogers (6th), Sasha Cotterill (7th), Laura Shuck (86th) and Amy Mountain (10th) finished second behind Alice Ottley School in the pentathlon.

The junior boys' individual winner was Oliver McNeillis, of Hagley Middle School, but Stourport took the team title with Sam Strange second and John Cole third.

A fine 9.9 metre shot helped Rob Phillips to fourth place but he had to retire injured in the 800m.

Rob Farmer was fifth in the shot, Kyle McNally sixth, Steve Blackburn seventh and Neil Hillage eighth.

Stourport's Sarah Hough produced seven personal bests to take third place in the intermediate girls' heptathlon and the team was runner-up to Alice Ottley School.

Tenaya Webb came ninth and Becky McGowan 13th.

The inter boys competed in the octathlon with Graeme Pardoe and Lewis Hemmings securing third and fourth places.

Richard Goodwin was seventh and Alex Shore eighth, while The Chase School, of Malvern, won the team title ahead of Stourport.

But their senior boys won the decathlon with James Shore first, Ashley Hill second and Kevin Hatton third.

Charlotte Mensah, of Stourport, was third behind Hayley Reed, of Haybridge High School, and Alison Smith, of Alice Ottley, in the senior girls competition.

The event was held at Stourport High School and was organised by Lynn Payne and Martin Clarke who will manage the county team with Geoff Durbin.
