MICHAEL Heald and Liana Embovica have chosen a very appealing programme to round off the Charlton Church Chamber Concerts on June 16.

The duo will be performing sonatas for piano and violin by Mozart, Elgar and Franck.

Michael has performed at Charlton before with The Jacobsen Trio. He is currently professor of violin at the University of Georgia. While he was still in his native England he studied with Angus Watson at Winchester College and privately with Emanuel Hurwitz. He was a member of the English String orchestra and played with many prestigious orchestras, including the CBSO and he continues to play for orchestras on the other side of the Atlantic, as well as being a member of the American Sinfonietta. Performances have also included many solo and chamber recitals.

For this occasion Michael is bringing the pianist Liana Embovica, a native of Latvia, who studied piano at the Darzinsh School of Music in Riga. During her studies she won numerous prizes and awards, including the top prize in the Latvian National Piano Competition.

After graduation the young pianist moved to the Moscow Conservatory and after five years of study with the world famous Professor Tatiana Nikolaeva she obtained her Master's Degree. Liana won the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory Competition. "Liana is widely regarded as a chamber musician and musical collaborator," said Charlotte Ooi, of Charlton Church Chamber Concerts.

"She performs very often and her repertoire is virtually unlimited. She invariably receives an enthusiastic response from the audience and high praise from the critics."

In addition to her performing activities, Liana is currently Professor of Piano at Toccoa Falls College, Georgia, and staff accompanist at the University of Georgia.

Tickets cost £8 from Hampton Farm Shop, Cropthorne Post Office or by telephoning Charlotte Ooi on 01386 861139.
