WORCESTERSHIRE farmers are being given a boost thanks to international barefoot runner Zola Budd-Pieterse.

The former Olympian will be running in the London fun run to raise money for farmers hit by the foot-and-mouth crisis.

And Arthur Hill, the West Midland's regional committee chairman for the National Farmers' Union, is to join his son Chris to hotfoot it around the capital with the athlete.

The pair are joining the Countryside team in the 10km Open Road Race on Sunday, July 22.

The money raised by the pair will go to the NFU's Supporting the Farmers in Crisis campaign to help those devastated by foot-and-mouth disease.

"I am sure that Zola Budd would be worried about the stern competition she faces now Chris and I have decided to enter," joked the chairman.

"But seriously, this is an excellent opportunity for us to raise some badly-needed money for the farming industry."
