A FINE display by Ian Chambers secured Chaddesley Corbett's second Worcestershire League Division One win of the season with just one ball left.

Hosts Droitwich, batting first, made a good start but tight bowling from Chambers and Mark Edwards kept the run-rate down.

Occasional medium pace-bowler Kevin Truswell made the breakthrough with his first ball.

Dave Perry removed opener Paul Bryan soon after but Haddock and Duggan repaired the damage in a stand which took the score to 126 with 15 overs remaining.

Andy Elbro continued his recent run of form and Chambers (4-61 from 14 overs) returned to restrict Droitwich's late charge.

Positive stroke play from Chaddesley's top order took the score to 73 for the loss of Matt Boden and Truswell by the 20th over.

The next 10 overs produced just 19 runs for the loss of two wickets.

George Baylis counter-attacked but 76 were needed from the last 10 overs with just four wickets left.

Baylis holed out for 41 with 51 still needed but Elbro joined Chambers in the decisive partnership.

Chambers struck two big leg-side sixes before Elbro was bowled, leaving nine to win from as many balls.

Nick White and Chambers (40no) scampered the final runs to wrap up victory by two wickets.

Droitwich 210-8, Chaddesley 211-8.

The seconds were defeated by five wickets at home to Droitwich.

Chaddesley chose to bat first and Rob Stephens smashed a variety of short-pitched bowling to the boundary for fours and an excellent start.

Stephens brought up his own 50 within the first eight overs.

However, with wickets falling regularly, when Stephens departed for 79 Chaddesley fell away until spirited batting by Tom Mole and Grant Bishop got them to 209.

In response, Droitwich began well but restrictive bowling by Phil Baylis and Mole slowed them down.

However, despite aggressive fast bowling from Bishop, the visitors squeezed home in the 51st over.

Chaddesley 209, Droitwich 211-5.

Chaddesley will meet Luctonians in the semi-final of the National Village Championship group 15 on Sunday.
