THREE of Kidderminster's young players helped the Wyre Forest men to a Birmingham and District Premier League draw at high-flying Halesowen.

They survived the last 25 overs of Saturday's match to finish on 165-9 in reply to Halesowen's formidable 253-6.

Kidderminster's reply had started terribly with captain Mark Mansell out in the first over without a run on the board.

Only Mandeep Singh (52) of the top order made any impression and wickets fell regularly to Mike Hodgkiss and Alan Warner.

At 98-8 in the 31st over, the visitors looked down and out but this brought together Ted Bayliss and Mark Sellek who batted comfortably for 16 overs.

The duo put on 56 for the ninth wicket in 54 minutes until Sellek played a casual shot to Warner and was bowled for a creditable 24.

Rob Symonds then joined his Worcestershire U-19 colleague and they withstood a further nine overs to see out the rest of the innings.

Bayliss finished on 24no in his side's 165-9, bringing them their second batting point.

Earlier, Halesowen had found little difficulty in coping with a tame Kidderminster attack and they put on 87 for the first wickets with both openers posting 41.

They fell in successive overs with a third departing six overs later but this did not halt the flow of runs.

Singh was the most successful bowler with 3-78 from his 21-5 overs but Mansell took the wickets of both James Tandy and Hodgkiss who put on 98 runs in 19 overs.

Kidderminster never looked like reaching their target but the dogged resistance of the tail-enders meant Halesowen had to settle for 14 points with Kidderminster picking up six.

Halesowen 253-6, KCC 165-9.

The seconds suffered a surprise seven-wicket defeat at home to Bedworth in the Birmingham League.

The visitors won the toss and invited Kidderminster to bat first at Chester Road.

They lost four wickets for 91 before Gavin Evans (86no) and Craig Siwicki (44no) added 125 runs in 23 overs to reach 227-4 in their 50 overs.

The visitors got off to a flying start with only Jason Hemming managing to bowl with any accuracy.

After Paul Mitchell removed both openers, the Bedworth middle order took them to victory with a couple of overs to spare.

Kidderminster 227-4 (4), Bedworth 228-3 (20).

Kidderminster's thirds recorded their first win of the season in Worcestershire League Division Five, taking 24 points from their match with Vine.

Batting first, Kidderminster scored 204-3 with an opening stand of 150 between Andy Logan (72) and Norman Lamb (86).

Vine began well with R Perkins scoring 66 before being caught by Keith Hyrons off Logan who took three wickets in all.

Gomez Vincent was the man-of-the-match in the field with direct hits at the wicket for two run-outs.

Kidderminster 204-2, Vine 178.
