SOME decades ago, a very old building in Bromsgrove was due for demolition and its site for redevelopment.
There were those who thought it deserved a chance of survival and the newly formed Avoncroft Museum of Buildings was brave enough to take it on.
Simon Penn, its director, told this story to the society and how every brick and timber was labelled, moved to Avoncroft and re-erected there. It was their first exhibit.
Since then, it has been joined by many diverse companions. The Guesten Hall from Worcester was only a roof for many years, but is now a beautiful multi-purpose hall.
The windmill from Danzey Green still works for its living.
But antiquity is not essential, as proved by the 1940s prefab, which is as interesting as anything there.
