UP to 20 ambulance paramedics and technicians in Redditch will be trained to use a life-saving piece of medical equipment by the end of next week, writes Becky Procter.
The piece of kit, known as a 12-lead ECG, has been piloted in the town and has proved so successful in saving the lives of heart attack victims it will be extended across the county.
The equipment transmits 12 images of the heart straight to doctors at the Alexandra Hospital, who will then be able to administer a clot-busting drug immediately the patient arrives.
Redditch was chosen to pilot the project because it has the highest rate of coronary heart disease in people under the age of 75 in the county.
Work is already in place to launch the second phase of the pilot project to train paramedics to administer the clot-busting drug themselves.
