A DROP-IN clinic which helps young people on a range of issues from drugs to sex is to be extended across Redditch, writes Becky Procter.

A Time 4U clinic opened recently in Winyates and a number of volunteer youngsters have just finished formal training to support trained councillors and spread the word to their peers.

The clinic, which runs each Thursday from 3.30-5.30pm at Winyates Barn, has proved successful in attracting both young men and women.

Plans for a clinic in Batchley have been deferred until premises become available at Christmas.

And a revolutionary scheme to make doctors' surgeries more accessible to young people looks set to be introduced nationally after its successful pilot in Redditch.

The scheme, called Young People Friendly Surgeries, is part of a sexual health improvement programme launched by Redditch Primary Care Group because of the high teenage pregnancy rate in the town.

The project aims to ensure young people have access to advice on contraception and an appointment on the same day the surgery is contacted.
