Gloucester Warriors (36) 66

Worcester Saints (0) 6

TotalRL.com Rugby League Conference

ONCE again this local derby turned into a one sided match with the Warriors dominant from the kick off.

Slack tackling allowed Gloucester to score three converted tries in the opening 22 minutes of the first half. Worcester briefly came back into the game with John Hurst, Mark Smith and Richard Whitehouse all coming close to scoring.

A Saints' try at this point might have brought them back into the match but the chances were missed and three more Gloucester tries, two of which were converted, gave the Warriors a half time lead of 36-0.

Playing into a swirling wind in the second half, Worcester fell further behind when the Warriors scored two tries in the opening five minutes.

With Saints struggling to break out of their own half, Gloucester continued to control the match, reaching the half century mark with two further tries to lead 54-0 with more than a quarter of the match left.

Sustained pressure

Worcester came back into the game and following a period of sustained pressure from their pack they scored a consolation try, when Richard Whitehouse followed on from his own kick to score under the post.

His easy conversion made him the club's top points scorer this season. Two more converted tries in the final minutes made the score 66-6 to the Warriors.

As with the match last week at Oxford, Worcester were again let down by poor tackling and a failure to make the best use of the limited possession. Some good performances from individual players do not compensate for a lack of cohesion in the team.

Saints: Richard Whitehouse, Mark Smith, Martin Wiltshire, Rob Barker, Ian Snape, John Mounter, Brett Toole, Mark Laishleigh, Phil Jefferies, Lee Goodyear, Neil Gulliver, Franois Helmer, Manny Samora, John Hurst, Craig Jesson, Nsa Harrison, Danny Badham.

l Match preview TotalRL.com Rugby League Conference: Worcester Saints v Cardiff, Saturday June 9. Worcester Saints return to Bromsgrove for the first ever meeting with the Cardiff Demons.

Although this is Cardiff's first season in the Rugby League Conference, they have been tipped as possible contenders for the league title.

Before last week's round of matches their only defeat was when they lost by four points to a last minute try at Oxford. Their top of the table meeting with league holders Hemel last Saturday resulted in a close defeat for the Welsh side and they will be looking for a victory over Worcester to maintain second place in the table.

The match kicks of at 2.30pm at Bromsgrove Rugby Club, Finstall Park.
