ELECTION candidates will soon find out if party promises have won the hearts of Droitwich Spa voters who head for the polls tomorrow.

For the first time in the 21st century, residents are being asked to vote in a General Election.

The Worcestershire County Council elections take place on the same day.

After weeks of campaigning, candidates will face an anxious wait while the votes are totted up. The General Election victor will be announced at Pershore High School once the count is complete.

Conservative candidate Peter Luff won the Mid-Worcestershire seat in 1997 with a large majority of 9,142.

He said: "I am grateful for the warm reception I have received on door steps in Droitwich Spa and other areas of my constituency.

"There is obviously great disillusionment with the Government in Worcestershire."

UK Independence Party candidate Tony Eaves said: "Talking to the electorate, I have found great interest in our policies and more awareness of our party, with plenty of support for withdrawal from the EU."

Liberal Democrat candidate Robert Browne said: "I have found a huge number of former Labour supporters are switching tactically to the Lib Dems to oust the Tories.

"This election will be closer than anyone thought."

Labour candidate David Bannister said: "We are very pleased with the responses received on the door step.

"People remember that Labour came second last time and are the real challengers."

*Our team will be working through the night to bring you the General Election results and reaction on Friday morning.
