STAFF at the town's magistrates' court have voted for strike action.

Workers at Worcestershire courts, including the Spa's Ombersley Street East, court are considering boycotting their duties over being moved to new buildings.

A ballot was organised by The Association of Magisterial Officers (AMO) and the result was four to one in favour of strike action.

It would affect around 80 clerical and cleaning staff at the Droitwich and Redditch courts.

It could take place in the next three weeks.

Currently, three quarters of the county's court staff face transfer to new buildings in Worcester and Kidderminster.

AMO assistant general secretary Nick McCarthy said: "We want to take every opportunity to allow the employer to find a solution. Strike action is the last resort."

West Mercia Magistrates' Courts Committee director of legal services Paul Bushell said: "A notice has been received from AMO in accordance with the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992, which indicates that association members may be taking industrial action."
