ANDY Bichel struck an early blow for Worcestershire as their County Championship Division Two clash with Sussex got under way at Horsham today.

The Australian paceman trapped Richard Montgomerie lbw for 12 as the home side reached 31-1 after 10 overs.

Bichel conceded only seven runs off his first five overs but opening partner Alamgir Sheriyar was less economical, with four boundaries being hit in his opening spell.

The County made three changes to their side, with recalls for Bichel, Stuart Lampitt and wicketkeeper Steve Rhodes.

Paul Pollard signalled his return to fitness after a hamstring injury with 74 as Worcestershire Develop-ment XI beat the Midland Club Cricket Conference by seven wickets at Kidderminster yesterday. James Pipe also made 57no.

The visitors were dismissed for 197, 14-year-old pace bowler Joe Hart taking 3-61.
