BROMSGROVE Second XI secured a comprehensive victory over Shrewsbury Seconds on Saturday to confirm their highly placed league position.

Town approached the match looking for a good result against their fellow promotion contenders, to re-establish their own promotion credentials.

Winnning the toss, Bromsgrove inserted the visitors on a dry and bouncy Bromsgrove wicket.

With Nick Husbands temporarily convalescing in the seconds, joining regular opening bowler Lawton with the new ball, town's attack looked to make the most of the lively wicket.

The visitors had other ideas, with Foster and Bland prepared to take on the bowlers, and making swift progress with an opening stand of 43 off 11 overs.

The introduction of the spin of Paul Husbands immediately unsettled the batsmen, bowling Foster (19). In combination with brother Nick, Bromsgrove pushed at the open door.

Bland (23) quickly following to give Nick Husbands a welcome return wicket. The introduction of the leg spin of Mortlock allowed the Boars to pile on the pressure, surrounding the bat.

The young Shrewsbury batsmen had no answer, subsiding to a lowly 80 all out. Morlock and Paul Husbands each finished with four wickets apiece.

Bromsgrove's progress was temporarily upset by the loss of Keyte (10), but Bilborough, joined by Court, made no further mistakes, cantering past the visitors total in only 22 overs.

Bilborough continued where he left off last Saturday with an imperious 40 not out, and Court was unbeaten on 28.
