BARNT Green were foiled by accurate spin bowling and crucial umpiring decisions during a run chase against Aston Unity in the Birmingham Premier League Premier Division on Saturday.

Replying to Aston Unity's impressive 245 all out, Green looked to be well on their way to posting a first league victory, with Simon Froggatt and Gavin Haynes going well at 150-2.

Nineteen overs remained with 100 runs to get when Froggatt was adjudged LBW when sweeping.

Captain Lyndon Jones carried the momentum with Haynes until he got his foot outside the line of off-stump and was given out in the same manner.

Worse was to come with Smith caught behind off his thigh pad.

Barnt Green couldn't regain the initiative against the bowling of Asif Din and Albert Khan and finished on 211-7 to ensure the draw.

Earlier Barnt Green got off to a great start with the ball with three early wickets, but they couldn't reckon with ex-Warwickshire player Asif Din.

Realising they had to dismiss him early, Michael Hind produced a beauty that swung on to a stationary front pad and, despite an almighty appeal, was given not out.

Taking advantage of this generous reprieve, Din placed the ball beautifully into any gap and was finally dismissed for 95 in the penultimate over.

Bizarrely, this score was amended to 103 during the tea interval.

Kris Howes followed up last week's heroics with four wickets.

Jones gave the air of a frustrated man after the match, commenting: "We should have wrapped it up and to be honest we were doing just that for the first half of our knock.

"We let them have 20 or 30 too many and we couldn't keep the momentum going with the bat after the surreal nightmare that occurred in the middle."

Jones wasn't pleased with the officiating either, adding: "It's not my place to criticise too much because it's a hard job.

"But there were incidents during both knocks that were bizarre and shouldn't happen at any level of cricket."
