AN amazing five-wicket blast from Dave Horsfall inspired Droitwich Thirds to an excellent 72-run win over Aston Manor Thirds.

Just as Spa seemed destined for a winning draw, Horsfall's introduction to the attack turned the game on its head as the home side slumped from 119-4 to 124 all out.

Horsfall's first over saw him break a stubborn fifth wicket stand between Forman and Iffy and also account for the hard-hitting Carter first ball.

It wasn't until his sixth over that the Yorkshire teen sensation conceded his first runs, shortly before claiming the final wicket to finish with figures of 5.5 overs, five maidens, five wickets for two runs.

Alan Breakwell also bowled well to claim 4-41 from 21 overs.

Earlier, Horsfall had shared an excellent opening stand of 94 with Mike Turner -- Droitwich's highest partnership so far this season.

He seemed destined for a well deserved half century before a misunderstanding saw both batsmen at the same end and Horsfall run out for 46.

Spa then lost a couple of quick wickets before Turner passed his 50 and then proceeded to accelerate the innings with a series of superb attacking shots.

He fell just nine short of his century with three overs remaining as Droitwich closed on 196-8.
