DROITWICH Spa First XI began their Sunday League campaign in winning style at St Peter's Fields against a talented Allens Cross side from Birmingham.
In the V Sports Sunday League Premier Division, Droitwich bowled first and achieved a good start through skipper Adrian Field's pace, and the wiles of veteran seamer Paul Bryan.
All the Allens Cross early order looked capable of big scores, but determined bowling and good fielding, not to mention Scott Fenn's alert wicket keeping, kept the visitors to 131 all out on a good track. Spinners Woodward and Gunston picked up three wickets each.
Droitwich had a disastrous reply and in no time were 30-4 off 15 overs. But Ian Duggan and Paul Bryan studiously rebuilt the innings in the face of some accurate bowling.
Despite the odd hairy moment, but with a mix of good shots, these two saw Droitwich home with four of the allotted 45 overs remaining. Duggan 48 not out, Bryan 35 not out.
