AVONCROFT Seconds were victorious against rivals Old Vigornians on what can only be described as a sporting wicket prepared by the home side
The ground, which had been under water for most of the winter, provided a stern test for every batsman, with the bounce at best variable, and at worst non-existent.
With this in mind, OV's score of 76 all out looked to be a challenging total.
As has been the case numerous times this year, it was 'Croft's spinners that did the damage.
Anthony Pittam took four wickets for the second time in a fortnight, which included two stumpings by keeper Rich Doodey, and Spencer George chipped in with two not out as the hosts collapsed from 71-5 to 76 all out.
Croft took the decision to be aggressive in their run chase, and this was highlighted by some inventive strokeplay by Ian Athey (13), and some positive running between the wickets.
The policy of pressuring the fielders looked to be backfiring when Doodey was run out for 16, leaving the contest evenly poised with 'Croft on 33-3.
However, Steve George's determination to take 'Croft to victory saw the visitors home, with 'Croft losing one more wicket on their way to 77-4.
