Boots the Chemist has denied reports it is to sell off Redditch- based subsidiary Halfords.
Rumours circulated last week the company was ready to let the car parts retailer and servicer go.
Boots corporate spokesman Francis Thomas said: "We can completely deny these rumours.
But Mr Thomas added: "If someone came along and offered us much more than it was worth then we would obviously have a duty to our shareholders to look at that - but that is not the case."
