RESIDENTS' objections to plans for a bus bay at Easemore Road resulted in a site visit being carried out yesterday (Tuesday).

The application was proposed as part of alterations to Abbey High School under the Redditch Review and followed the Safer Routes to Schools exercise, which recognised a number of pupils travel to school by public transport.

The 60m by 8m bay would accommodate up to 10 buses to allow pupils to be dropped off and picked up and would also incorporate a one-way system with separate exit and entrance points onto Easemore Road.

But residents submitted a 130-name petition and letter opposing it due to fears over pollution, traffic flow, safety and parking.

It was resolved at a county council planning and regulatory committee meeting on May 30 that director of environmental services, Richard Wigginton, would be authorised to decide whether the application would get the green light after Tuesday's visit.
