A FRIGHTENED girl from Droitwich Spa was shot in the head when robbers attempted to snatch her mobile phone.

The attack happened as the 15-year-old walked along a towpath behind Droitwich Sports and Leisure Centre, towards Briar Mill.

She was shot from behind - once in the hand and once in the head - with a replica gun.

Two men then approached the student, demanding her phone.

But the feisty teenager fought back and even punched one of them in the face.

The pair fled empty handed, leaving the teenager distressed and bruised.

Shots fired from the low velocity air weapon did not pierce her skin and she ran home. Her mother then called the police.

The incident happened at 4.45pm on Tuesday May 29.

PC Claire Ryan, of Droitwich police, said: "Although this was a replica gun it would look realistic from a distance.

"The girl was frightened by what happened."

A police spokeswoman said the teenager could have been badly hurt.

She added: "Although it was a low velocity air weapon, it can cause serious injury if shot at close range."

Police are now hunting two "scruffy" men.

The first is described as white, 5ft 8in tall and of medium build.

He wore a dark blue baseball cap, a navy hooded Champion sweatshirt and black jeans.

The second male is described as white, 5ft 7in tall and slim.

He was wearing a green baseball cap, a black T-shirt and blue tracksuit bottoms.
