A GUITAR duo inspired by Bach and Benny Hill, a film soundtrack DJ and a 1960s 'beat' poet are among the highlights at a Malvern music festival.

Malvern Wells CE Primary School's ambitious event, Wellstock, will take the town by storm this Saturday in aid of children with special needs.

Organised by the Parent Teacher Association, the one day mini-festival combines musical entertainment with children's activities, including a bouncy castle, face painting, story-telling, fake tattoos and shadow puppet workshop.

First up on the outdoor stage is DJ Ape 11, playing an eclectic selection of jazz, funk and reggae, accompanied by Beardie, lead guitarist with Bad Habits.

Musician Beech Boy, who played at the Reading, Phoenix and Homelands festivals and appeared on experimental film soundtracks, follows.

Birmingham-based classical guitar duo Blazing Saddles will range from Bach and Bossanova to Bluegrass and Benny Hill.

Up-and-coming Malvern DJ Dan K and Flatworld, a local pan-European folk music band, will take a slot and The Last Beat will join 1960s beat poet Dick McBride and post-punk band Celluloid, with DJ Usama for the event, which runs between noon and 6pm.

The Sirens are a five piece band from Malvern Wells who combine piano, violin, guitar, flute and accordion to interpret songs from Cole Porter to the Beatles.

Food and alcohol will be available at Wellstock, with 75 per cent of proceeds going to the school fund and 25 per cent to Kaleidoscope, a unique Malvern scheme for parents of young children with severe special needs.

Tickets costing £5 for adults and £1 for children, accompanied by an adult, should be booked in advance from the school in Wells Road or by calling 01684 561179.
