FIVE police officers arrested a Worcester schoolboy after spotting him in an area from which they believed he was banned.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested by officers as he stood in Cranham Drive, Warndon on Monday evening.

The 13-year-old appeared before Droitwich youth court yesterday charged with breaching his bail conditions.

These were imposed after he was charged with criminal damage.

The teenager is due to appear at the court on Wednesday, June 13, in connection with the charge.

Lynn Swayne, prosecuting, said the teenager was a "persistent offender" who was in an area he knew was out of bounds.

But giving evidence, the boy's mother said her son had been entitled to go to the area in which he was arrested.

"Where he was standing had not been mentioned as a place he could not go," she told magistrates.

Judith Kenney, defending, told magistrates information given to her client and his mother had not reflected the area police believed to be part of the exclusion.

Magistrates dismissed the charge, saying the conditions had been "too ambiguous" and re-clarified the terms with all parties.
