FINE weather has prompted an increase in thefts from garages across the town, police have warned.

Residents are being urged to avoid leaving garage doors open for long periods and to lock them when they are shut.

Sgt Neil Billingham, of Redditch north-east police sector, said: "As people leave their garage doors open to wash the car or do some gardening, passers by have a clear view of what is contained within.

"Many of those items are of high value. Overnight on many occasions these are being opened if not secure or forced and property is stolen."

Anyone with information can call Redditch police on 584888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
