A TOWN school due to close as a result of a massive education shake-up in Redditch will go out with a bang when it holds a spectacular concert and fireworks display.

Past and present staff and students of Bridley Moor High School will come together to mark the sad occasion on Thursday, June 28.

And as from August 31, the popular Bridley Moor Road school in Batchley will be no more after 49 years.

Pupils will be transferred to the new Trinity High School, formerly Abbey High, on Easemore Road in the town centre.

Headteacher Val Duffy-Cross said: "The concert will include the school orchestra and acts from members of staff. It will be finished off with a fireworks display and cannons.

"We would like as many people, students, parents, friends, past pupils and teachers and current staff to be there. I am expecting up to 1,000 people to be there to say a final farewell to Bridley Moor."

Pupils in year 11 and 13 will continue to study at the school for a further 12 months from September, which will enable them to finish examinations.

Mrs Duffy-Cross, who has just been appointed headteacher of Langley School in Solihull, said: "This spectacular event will be a fitting tribute to a school that has meant so very much to the community it serves in Redditch."

The school will be open for tours from 10 am on June 28 and the concert will kick off at 7.30pm.

Tours and the concert are free but by ticket only and anyone wanting to join in the farewell do can contact the school on 63191.
