STOURPORT Swifts boss Rod Brown was content with the home draw against Oadby - but admitted the result could have been so different.

Brown and his assistant Gary Whild are bidding to lead Swifts to the proudest moment in their history - the Midland Alliance title.

And the manager and his squad remain confident of earning the right result, a victory by two goals, at Bloxwich tonight.

The 1-1 tie with Oadby left the title close to the club's grasp.

Brown admitted: "We rode our luck in the first half against Oadby. I couldn't believe they didn't score a second or even a third goal.

"But we scored at the right time and had a good spell in the last 10 minutes of the first half.

"I then thought we dominated the second and carved out maybe three good chances, while they hit the post.

"It was quite a thrilling game and I have to be happy with the result. I couldn't ask any more from the lads as we played a good Oadby side.

"They are probably the best footballing side in the league. They like to play a lot of football and you have to mix it with them.

"If you don't let them get a goal, they can slip a little bit. But you cannot give them the space to play with the ball as you end up chasing shadows and that's probably what happened in the first half."

Midfielder Simon Marsh also pulled no punches, saying: "We were that bad in the first 30 minutes that we could have been 3-0 down.

"But then we were disappointed that we didn't win the game in the second half. In the end, a draw was a fair result."

And Brown added: "If you had said at the beginning of the season that we had to win the last game by two goals to take the league, we would have settled for that."
