BROMSGROVE Olympique Cycling Club's riders were in action at several venues over the last few weeks, with considerable success for many.

The club's Raleigh Challenge cycle skills test at North Bromsgrove High School saw several local heat winners, including Jack Barnes, Genevieve Billington and Jason Dingley.

Others who earned a place in the regional final included Peter Banham, Emily and Rosie Seal and Gavin Ballantyne.

Ross Dingley made a hash of the skills course, sending bottles flying and ended up going under the final obstacle on his knees instead of his bike!

He redeemed himself later in the afternoon, winning the heat in Redditch by 11 seconds with no penalty points.

Alex Billington won the final youth event of the evening at Halesowen's track, also taking a second at circuit races in Lichfield.

Will Goulbourne also secured a fourth place, with Ross taking seventh. Peter Banham was second in the under 12s and on his first outing at Halesowen won every event he rode in. This instant success had its penalty though, with him being given orders to ride with the older group in future.

The opening Olympique ten mile time trial was slightly hampered by a terrific downpour before the start, which put off many riders.

Nevertheless, five hardy individuals made the start line, with Alan Dyus fastest in 25.48 and Mick Solloway second in 26.42.

Club riders who last raced many years ago returned to competition with very reasonable times, Alex Lindley 29.56 and Richard Broomhead 33.33. Neville Billington clocked 31.57.

There will be more skills and racing events for youngsters at North Bromsgrove High School on Tuesday nights over the summer, starting at 7pm on Tuesday.
