A CURIOUS feature of the whole sad saga of the foot-and-mouth outbreak has been the almost total lack of comment in these columns from the Countryside Alliance.

I have seen no letter from its spokesman urging donations to the various hardship funds, no encouragement to support the temporary farmer's market in CrownGate or to visit Bennett's Farm Park.

All of these you might think would be causes the Alliance would be keen to promote in these difficult times for our farmers.

The only letters I have seen have been concerned with preserving hunting.

Is it that the Alliance is really only a one-issue group that couldn't care less about other rural matters?

It is certainly beginning to look that way.

A REECE,

Worcester.
